Off to Uganda...

...very soon.
So I will be teaming with 13 other people next month on a trip to Uganda. Why you ask? Well, I will be helping teach a 4-day seminar for the children enlisted in the LEAD Uganda program. This program takes kids, some have been orphaned by AIDS, sold as sex-slaves, or forced to be a child soldier, and provides them with the opportunity to succeed. The kids are encouraged to go to universities and then return to be the future leaders of the country.
I will be teaching a creative/self expression course with 3 other fine ladies. Currently, there is no creativity courses offered in the kids curriculum. Actually, any arts is usually discouraged and believed to be the cause when kids don't do well in school. Much different from our education system by far.
If you'd like to help us out, look below and donate some money. $2, $5, $50... anything will help. The money will go to our travels there. We'll be bringing with us 10 laptops for the house, and hopefully we can find some camera donations sometime before August 18th.

True Story.

The Magic of Film

While digital has pretty much hogged the entire photography industry, there's truly nothing like good old-fashioned film. Tri-X anyone? Would you pass me my loupe? What's a loupe, you ask? How sad.

I finally received, with much excitement, my Polaroid cameras, including the above shown sx-70. While we all know that Polaroid has all ready called it quits, the folks at The Impossible Project are attempting to begin independent production of a similar instant film by 2010. Currently, there is a supplier of stocked Polaroid (http://www.unsaleable.com). I share this with you to encourage more Polaroid usage; Viva La Film!

Besides Polaroids, I would love to get back in the darkroom, perhaps these snapshots will inspire a wonderful little project...

When it comes to magazines, my favorite one would be Lula Magazine, hands-down. I love it because it’s ultra girlie, ultra cutesy, and all-around pretty. Definately worth checking out, although at a hefty $15.99 USD per issue (ouch!), it may just be Barnes & Noble flip-through worthy. I usually have to stake them out a little bit, only select (meaning completely random) stores/delis have it, so not every B&N will carry it. The past issue, Issue Eight, is completely to die for—a tribute to Edie Beale and an absolutely adorable fashion story featuring Chanel Iman. Everytime I actually fork over the 16 bucks to pick up Lula, it throws me back to the Lisa Frank days, when I didn’t ever think about the actual usefulness of fuzzy stickers and unicorns mysteriously filled with that oily-type liquid. I had to get my grubby little fingers on Lisa because it was pretty, plain and simple. And so it was. I fully enjoyed that lovely period of my life, I suppose I’m in that photographic period of attempting to get back to that point.
